Subject:  Addition of new Member  to Board of Trade.

 

 

Ref:  Order  No.Ol/94/180/438/AM-05/BOT/PC-V dated  16.7.2009 regarding  reconstitution of Board of Trade.

 

2.       Vide this office order dated 17 June, 2010, Shri Rana Kapoor, MD & CEO of Yes Bank has been nominated as non-official member of BOT. Now, he has assumed the office of the President of ASSOCHAM, therefore he becomes an ex­ officio member of BOT. His name also appears as a Non-Official Member of BOT. Hence, in order to avoid duplication, it has been decided to retain him as an Ex­ officio member only.

 

 

3.       Shri Vikramjit Singh Sahney, President, SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry  is  nominated  as  a  Non  Official  Member  in  the  Board  of  Trade  with immediate effect.

Sub:  Inclusion of Shri M. Rafeeque Ahmed in place of Shri Habib Hussain as Member of the Committee.

 

A Committee to advise Government on future strategy for export promotion and increasing competitiveness of domestic industry was constituted on 10.12.2010.

 

2.      Shri Habib Hussain, being the Chairman of Council for Leather Exports, was nominated as member of the Committee. Since Shri M. Rafeeque Ahmed is now the Chairman of Council for Leather Exports, he would be the member of the Committee in place of Shri Habib Hussain.

Sub: Setting up of Committee to advise Government on future strategy for export promotion and increasing competitiveness of domestic industry.

 

        The 2nd meeting of reconstituted Board of Trade was held under the Chairmanship of Shri Anand Sharma, Minister for Commerce & Industry at Vigyan Bhavan on 25th Nov.2010. Responding to suggestions, Commerce and Industry Minister announced formation of a Committee to advise the Government on future strategy for export promotion on increasing competitiveness of domestic industry. This Committee shall identify atleast 3 thrust sectors in 3 regions with whom India has been trading.

 

Accordingly, a Committee is constituted with the following as its members:

 

1.          Shri O. P. Bhatt, Chairman, State Bank of India

2.          Shri Habib Hussain, Chairman,Council for Leather Exports

3.          Smt.Chanda D. Kochhar, MD & CEO, ICICI Bank Ltd.

4.          Dr,  Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, CMD, Biocon Ltd.

5.          Shri Pawan Munjal , M.D, Hero Honda Motors Ltd.

6.          Shri R.Seshasayee, MD, Ashok Leyland Ltd.

7.          Shri Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motors Company

8.          Shri Smitesh Shah, Chairman, PHARMEXCIL.

 

The DGFT Dr.Anup K.Pujari would be the Convener of the Committee.

 

 2.    The Committee is to submit its report within a period of 3 months. The Committee may co-opt or invite such other persons as may be necessary from time to time.

 

3.     The report of the Committee would be an important input to our export strategy.

The Terms of Reference of the Board of Trade are:

 

- To advise the Government on Policy measures for preparation and implementation of both short and long term plans for increasing exports in the light of emerging national and international economic scenarios;

 

- To review export performance of various sectors, identify constraints and suggest industry specific measures to optimize export earnings;

 

-  To examine the existing institutional framework for import and exports and suggest practical measures for further streamlining to achieve the desired objectives;

 

- To review the policy instruments and procedures for imports and exports and suggest steps to rationalize and channelise such schemes for optimum use;

 

-  To examine issues which are considered relevant for promotion of India’s foreign trade, and to strengthen the international competitiveness of Indian goods and services; and

 

-  To commission studies for furtherance of the above objectives;

 

The Board will meet at least once every quarter and make recommendations to Government on issues pertaining to its terms of reference. The Board of Trade will have the power to set up sub-committees and to co-opt experts to these, to make recommendations on specific sectors and objectives.
